Known for being a photographic artist who specializes in fine portraiture with the approach of capturing one's distinctive essence, personality and expression. Mark Hoke is often sought out for his charismatic way of achieving that goal, which is to bring out your natural best, then capture it in the camera to produce the portrait you’ve envisioned for display in your home, office or on your social media profile.
This is how it started
As a kid I was always fascinated with light and how light appeared on people depending where they stood at different times of the day. When I was in middle school I met a seventh grade teacher who talked about controlling light through a camera lens, to say the least I was entrenched with every word he had to say. Found out later that he was starting a photography club at the school I was in.
Back in those days to own a SLR camera someone would have to truly believe in you or you would have to have a job. Obviously I was only twelve years old so I had to settle with the cameras my parents had around the house, back then these were 110 and 126 cameras which denoted the size of the film very very small and had no lens or aperture controls. That meant you had to physically move people in and out of the sun or shadows to achieve the look you wanted, WOW!
Street Education
For years I photographed and did my own lab work and printed my own pictures, totally self educated, until one day I hooked up with a seasoned full time Professional Photographer and he showed me the in’s and outs of the business.
As a portrait, sports and wedding photographer My ability to adapt to on-location as well as being in the portrait studio using studio flash, always traveling prepared and battery powered, I was known for bringing the Studio to you! In addition to being quite proficient at utilizing portrait backdrops and professional lighting, I was also known for capturing and manipulating the available ambient light or balancing that light with flash to create beautiful environmental portraits. Even with all these skills mastered and utilized, I continue to educate and challenge myself in the now ever changing world of "Digital" photography.
